1) LLumar® and VISTA™ Safety Films and attachment may offer hurricane protection
when used as part of an approved system for existing commercial windows.
2) Commercial window systems (storefront windows YKK YES 40FS with
¼” annealed glass and ½” wetglaze) have passed the following wind-borne
debris testing standards when tested with LLumar 8 mil Safety Film
and ½” wetglaze attachment system.
• TAS-201 Small Missile
• ASTM E1886 / 1996 Small Missile “A”
• ASTM E1886 / 1996 Large Missile “C”
• Factory Mutual FM Approvals 4350 Small Missile
3) LLumar and VISTA Safety Film and attachment may help provide hurricane resistance to
glazed openings above 30 feet high in commercial buildings.
4) LLumar and VISTA Safety Film and attachment may help provide hurricane resistance
to glazed openings in commercial buildings in areas < 130 mph unless located within 1 mile of coast.
5) LLumar and VISTA Safety Film and attachment may be approved for hurricane resistance by
licensed engineers s part of a designed system for commercial windows.
6) LLumar and VISTA Safety Film may qualify for insurance discounts when used in an approved system.
7) Acceptable words or statements include: “storm season”, “violent storm”, “wind storm”, “impact resistance against wind-borne debris”, and “hurricane resistant.
Residential
1) LLumar and VISTA Safety Film helps hold together shattered glass caused by severe weather which may help reduce injury from flying glass and reduce the damage to the inside of a home.
2) Residential window systems (aluminum frame with 1/8” annealed glass) have passed the following wind-borne debris testing standards when tested with LLumar 8 mil Safety Film (as well as LLumar N1050 8 mil Safety Film) and ½” wetglaze attachment system.
• ASTM E1886 / 1996 Small Missile “A”
(The test simulates building gravel impacting windows above 30’. The goal is to prevent the windows from breaking and the building from becoming pressurized during a storm.)
3) The film and window combination held up to both impact and cyclic load tests passing all applicable requirements of ASTM E1886/1996… demonstrating hurricane resistance on any similar window located in non-windborne debris regions.
4) Similar windows located in windborne debris regions may qualify when higher than 30’. Defer to the authority having jurisdiction.
